Apple’s Foldable iPhone Leak Reveals Design, Specs & Launch Timeline

Apple is reportedly developing its first foldable iPhone, with new leaks providing a detailed glimpse into its possible design, features, and expected launch. According to a Chinese source, translated by Jukanlosreve on X (formerly Twitter), Apple's foldable iPhone may arrive by fall 2026, featuring a large display, an advanced hinge mechanism, and cutting-edge battery and camera technology.

Foldable iPhone Design & Display

The leak suggests that the foldable iPhone will have a folding mechanism positioned on the left rear side. When folded, it will measure 9.2mm thick, while each individual side will be 4.6mm thick. The internal screen is expected to be around 12 inches—essentially combining two 6.1-inch displays—offering a tablet-like experience for productivity and entertainment. Apple will reportedly rely on Samsung for the display, using Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) Blue technology. The support frame material is still undecided, with Apple considering titanium alloy, stainless steel, or carbon fiber.

Innovative Hinge Technology

The hinge, a critical component of any foldable device, is being developed entirely in-house by Apple, with production costs estimated at $110. Key suppliers include Amphenol and Taiwan’s Xinyiheng, while Foxconn’s Fulin division is handling the midframe, which is expected to cost between $80 and $90. Mass production may later involve secondary suppliers such as LanSi and BYD Electronics.

Camera & Battery Technology

The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a Meta Lens ultra-thin front camera, with lenses supplied by Largan, Sunwoo, and Lantega. The rear cameras will have a hybrid glass-plastic structure for both the primary and ultra-wide sensors. The device will be powered by two stainless steel-cased batteries with a total capacity of around 5000mAh, using advanced 3D-stacked cell technology developed by ATL.

Production & Launch Timeline

Apple is reportedly taking a cautious approach, ensuring the foldable iPhone meets high standards before release. The expected timeline is:
  • Late 2025 – Early 2026: Mass production begins
  • Fall 2026: Official launch of the foldable iPhone
  • 2027: Foldable iPad or MacBook may follow
Foxconn is expected to be the exclusive manufacturer for the first year, with Luxshare joining in 2027. Apple’s initial sales projections suggest 8 to 10 million units could be sold in 2026, doubling to 20 million units the following year. If these leaks hold true, Apple's foldable iPhone could be one of the most innovative smartphone launches of the decade. Stay tuned for more updates!
